The Blue Angels are flying over Pensacola again, but seeing them up close requires more planning than it used to.
Practices run March through October. April schedule: April 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29. Autograph sessions at the National Naval Aviation Museum follow practice on April 8, 15, 22 and 29.
Two restrictions apply. The flight line viewing area behind the museum remains suspended. And NAS Pensacola is open to civilian visitors only Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with mandatory background checks at the Visitor Control Center on Navy Boulevard.
Weekday practice viewing from inside the base is not happening this season. Off-base options: the Blue Angels Parkway Target parking lot, Fort Pickens, and boat cruises timed around practice days.
The Pensacola Beach Air Show runs July 18-19. The Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show at NAS Pensacola is November 6-7, with 150,000 to 180,000 expected.
Remaining spring schedule: May 5, 6, 12, 13, 27. June 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30. July 1, 21, 22, 28.
