Fiesta Pensacola, the nonprofit that has organized the city's spring event calendar since 1951, has 11 events scheduled between now and Memorial Day weekend. Some are well-known. A few are worth knowing about even if you've lived here for years and thought you knew all of them.

The anchor events are the Pensacola Crawfish Festival on April 24, the Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5 in Seville Square and the Fiesta of Five Flags from May 30 through June 1, the centerpiece of which is the Landing of Luna re-enactment and parade down Palafox Street.

The Crawfish Festival is the most attended single-day event on the spring calendar. Multiple boils, live music across three stages, vendors from across the region. Arrive before noon if you want to eat without a long wait. The Cinco de Mayo celebration in Seville Square is smaller and more neighborhood-oriented, a good option if the Crawfish Festival crowd isn't what you're looking for.

The Fiesta of Five Flags closing weekend includes the Pensacola Seafood Festival, which runs at the waterfront simultaneously with the Fiesta parade activities. The overlap creates a traffic and logistics situation that catches people off-guard every year. If you're driving downtown on May 31, check the city's event closure map at the City of Pensacola website before you leave.
