That sourcing requirement is the thing that sets Palafox Market apart from a lot of outdoor markets. You will not find a vendor reselling produce from a regional distributor. The tomatoes came from someone's farm. The bread was baked by the person standing behind the table. The pottery was thrown and fired by the person who is telling you how thick the walls are. That directness changes what the market feels like, and means the selection is genuinely seasonal.
Peak season runs April through November. The Saturday morning crowd in the spring and fall can get tight between 10 and noon, but the layout along Plaza Ferdinand handles it. Early arrival matters: the best bread, the freshest herbs and the most sought-after specialty items go fast. Arriving at 9 a.m. is a different experience than arriving at noon.
Plaza Ferdinand is at 131 Palafox Place, adjacent to the T.T. Wentworth Florida State Museum. Street parking on Palafox and surrounding blocks. Market information at visitpensacola.com.
